What’s Included in a Club Med Ski Holiday?
Let’s start with the basics. Club Med ski holidays typically include:
- Accommodation in stylish rooms or suites
- All meals and snacks (buffet and specialty options, depending on resort)
- Unlimited drinks – house wine, cocktails, soft drink, juice, coffees (excluding premium beverages)
- Daily lift passes
- Group ski and snowboard lessons for all levels
- Kids’ clubs (excluding Kiroro Peak)
- Daily and nightly entertainment (think cruise-ship style shows with kids getting involved if they wish and activities)
- Access to fitness facilities, onsen, or spa
Note: Equipment rental is an additional cost, but you can swap between skis and snowboards throughout your stay subject to availability. Limited clothing hire is available, so I recommend bringing your own gear for the most comfort.
Club Med Tomamu – The Expansive Resort
Tomamu is perfect for families that like to be kept busy and on the go, offering a variety of activities to suit everyone. From the Ice Village (open from early January) to a fabulous outdoor onsen, wave pool, and a bar where you can watch your kids attempt to ski, Tomamu has something for everyone. While it’s a larger property, it’s designed so that families can enjoy everything without feeling crowded. With a wide range of facilities, it’s ideal for families with varying ski levels. The kids will have a blast, you’ll be able to unwind, and everyone will leave with a smile.
Personal Moments
We explored the Ice Village and the kids enjoyed some ice skating. A girlfriend and I even made a grand entrance down the ice slide into the village. I loved watching the kids learn to ski for the first time from the bar area overlooking the beginners’ area with the magic carpet. It was such a magical moment, seeing them slowly glide down and get more confident as the days went by! Though, maybe we also saw one of them crash into the orange barrier – but don’t worry, no one was hurt! It was all part of the fun!
I also had a blast on a snowmobile fun day trip, where we got to explore the snowy trails in a totally different way – it was such an adventure!
Resort Stats
- Maximum Altitude: 1171m
- Minimum Altitude: 586m
- 22 km of Alpine Ski Slopes
- 28 Runs

Room Options for Larger Families
Tomamu offers multiple room options, including interconnecting rooms and family rooms, making it a great choice for families with three or more kids. These options provide flexibility and space, ensuring that everyone can stay together comfortably.
Club Med Kiroro Grand – A Touch of Elegance
Club Med took over a previous resort, and Club Med Kiroro was born, offering stunning decor and exceptional skiing. One of the highlights is that you’ll take a gondola from the locker area to meet your ski lesson. It’s a smooth and easy journey that adds a touch of fun to your ski day and ensures a seamless start to your lessons. Whether you’re traveling with more experienced skiers or have dropped the kids off to ski school, this resort is designed to keep things stress-free. Ski lessons for kids are included, and the expert instructors will take care of everything, ensuring a relaxing experience for parents.
I think this property is fantastic for all families, especially those looking for a balance of comfort and adventure. However, if you have a larger family and prefer interconnecting rooms, please note that Club Med Kiroro Grand doesn’t offer these due to structural engineering limitations.
Special Moments
Special moments at Kiroro Grand included enjoying soothing soaks in the onsen with girlfriends while the kids were having a blast at the resort skiing, playing pool. They also enjoyed their own weight in lollies at the candy buffet – a true sugar rush!
Resort Stats
- Maximum Altitude: 1180m
- Minimum Altitude: 520m
- 30 km of Alpine Ski Slopes
- 28 Ski Runs
- Onsen and Spa (perfect for unwinding with a relaxing massage after a long day on the slopes)
Club Med Kiroro Peak – Luxury at Its Best
If you’re craving luxury, this is your ideal resort. Think champagne for après-ski, elevated service, and ski-in, ski-out access (no gondolas to ski lesson meet point here). It’s perfect for families with teens since there’s a strict “12+ only” policy, meaning no little ones interrupting your grown-up moments. The food? Chef’s kiss. Definitely the upscale choice for those seeking a bit more pizzazz with their ski trip. Plus, you can venture over to Kiroro Grand for more dining options, and as part of Club Med’s Exclusive Collection, you get access to exclusive perks, too.
Club Med Sahoro – My Personal Favorite
This charming resort has my heart. It’s cozy, quiet, and everything I love about a more relaxed ski holiday. It’s smaller, so there’s less chaos and more room to breathe. And when you need a break from skiing, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a quiet coffee or read a book. They’ve got hot baths and spa for a massage (because it’s Japan, of course), and it’s lovely. While it can get busy during peak season, it’s still far less hectic than Tomamu or Kiroro Grand. If you enjoy your snow with a side of tranquillity, this is your spot.
Special Moments
We spent our days skiing on the fantastic slopes, followed by soothing soaks with the stunning mountain views all around. The views from the top of the mountains were absolutely breathtaking! After a full day of skiing and relaxation, we capped off the night with a fun karaoke session — the perfect way to unwind and enjoy some laughs with friends and family.
Resort Stats
- Maximum Altitude: 1030m
- Minimum Altitude: 420m
- 25 km of Alpine Ski Slopes
- 17 Runs
Diverse Rooming Options
Sahoro offers a variety of room options, including deluxe rooms for 2 adults and 3 children, making it an excellent choice for families. However, please note that interconnecting rooms are not available.
My Overall Thoughts
Each property offers a unique experience, and that’s what makes Club Med Hokkaido such an exceptional destination. Whether you’re after luxury, family-friendly activities, or a more relaxed getaway, there’s a property to suit your needs. The ski facilities are excellent, and I’ve never had to queue for a lift, even during peak season.
What really sets it apart, though, is that it’s not just a holiday for the kids, but for parents too. Each resort’s buffet is a culinary experience, offering everything from French cheese and freshly baked baguettes to Hokkaido lobster, sushi, steak, and of course, chicken nuggets with fries for the kids. Because let’s be honest, we take our kids overseas to eat chicken nuggets and chips, right? Haha! It’s the perfect balance between a great meal for the adults and a fuss-free option for the little ones. Everyone’s happy!
On a Personal Note
The only downside of Club Med Sahoro for me? That old-school T-bar lift. You know the one – the one that goes between your legs. I thought I had it mastered… until I flew off this year. Let’s just say it wasn’t my smoothest landing. Luckily, my pride was the only thing that took a real hit. It was the first time I’d encountered one of those since I was a kid skiing in the Snowy Mountains. That’s officially crossed off my bucket list. Never again. Thankfully, there were plenty of other options for getting up the mountains!
So, if you’re not an expert skier or someone with zero fear, maybe just avoid the T-bar. Trust me, your pride (and derrière) will thank you.
Family Fun & Memories
Traveling with my family and friends to all four resorts during peak season has been an absolute blast. We always have the BEST time. Some of our kids are growing up skiing together, and there’s something truly magical about it. Less device time, just fresh air, incredible food, and plenty of laughs. We even throw in some cheeky karaoke (we pretend to be amazing singers, but let’s be honest, we are just there for the giggles) and a couple of cocktails, and just like that—memories for life. So, Club Med Japan isn’t just about skiing—it’s about creating those moments that make you feel like you’re living your best life with the people you love.
